Three Don'ts of Social Media Marketing

In today’s society, social media is unavoidable. We’ve replaced phone calls and emails with Facebook and Instagram. Whether you are a sole proprietorship or running a corporation, your social media presence is important. Let’s talk about three don’ts of social media marketing.

Three Don’ts of social media marketing

1. Don’t steal images. First, don’t steal images. We all know that stealing is wrong, but it is easy to forget that stealing images is as detrimental as stealing from a brick-and-mortar store. It may not feel like it has the same consequences, but people can be fined for using images that they don’t have permission to use. You can always create your own images or use purchased stock images.

2. Don’t overuse hashtags. Next, be wary of overusing hashtags. Hashtags are how you get found in searches on social media, but while it may seem like you should use as many as you can, you can overdo it. Overusing hashtags can make your posts feel inauthentic and more automated. You will end up attracting more fake accounts instead of people who are interested in engaging with your content.

3. Don’t jump on every trend. Finally, refrain from jumping on every trend that happens. Trends on social media come and go quickly. What is popular today may be completely out of style tomorrow. Instead of jumping on every trend, focus on trends that fit your style and your brand. Additionally, if you are not sure what a hashtag or trend means, it’s best to avoid it.

No matter how you feel about social media, having an online presence is integral to business success. Social media is a great way to connect with potential clients, but as a busy business owner, you may not have time to handle your online presence on top of everything else. If you’re looking for a company to help you manage your social media marketing presence, Brand Buddy can help.
